Tonight I attended a Vintage fashion show at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts as part of Third Thursday (and MN Fashion Week, of course). It was put on by local vintage and resale stores Buffalo Exchange, Everyday People, Blacklist Vintage, Rewind, B-squad Vintage, and a few others. The outfits were daring, bright, and full of throwback styles from other decades (including 50s-inspired frocks and 90s grunge era denim.)

Here is the video of part of the show:

Fashion tours of the permanent gallery were also provided, highlighting clothing from different cultures around the world and how their culture of origin used/related to the items. In addition to this, there was live music provided by Mayda.

Fashionable crowd, perfect venue, all in all a nice evening!

What’s in the forecast for Fall?

With the past week housing not only New York Fashion Week but also the Grammy Awards, fashion fever is in the air. Not to mention that Spring is only a couple of months away now (well, in Minnesota, still about 2 1/2…).

The Grammys weren’t out-of-the-park interesting for me, but there were a few good looks to be found. As for what’s in stores now- bright colors, jackets galore, lots of prints, and an over-abundance of stripes are in the air for Spring.

For next Fall, shine in fabrics, knee-length hemlines, and around-the-globe cultural inspirations are seen in abundance.. A storied, travelwear, just-got-off-the-train quality echos through many of the collections. Patterns vary from new and graphic to folksy and florals that (your Grandma) would get excited about. Ladylike influences seem to be reminiscent of an urban lifestyle in the 1920s and 30s. Not only that, but Fall 2013 seems to be celebrating a practical approach to dressing, which we all can get excited about. Aside from this is wispy hair, red lips,┬áporcelain┬áskin, and simple booties/flats for the feet. All in all, I can’t wait for Fall!

Bags of Winter

When winter gets cold, stale, and oh-so-long, doesn’t it make you feel better to carry a little box of sunshine? I’m talking about the season’s cutest small bags- from baguettes to clutches to crossbodies. These are not your everyday carry to the office bags, they’re more like the weekend or “day out with the girls” type.
