What’s in the forecast for Fall?

With the past week housing not only New York Fashion Week but also the Grammy Awards, fashion fever is in the air. Not to mention that Spring is only a couple of months away now (well, in Minnesota, still about 2 1/2…).

The Grammys weren’t out-of-the-park interesting for me, but there were a few good looks to be found. As for what’s in stores now- bright colors, jackets galore, lots of prints, and an over-abundance of stripes are in the air for Spring.

For next Fall, shine in fabrics, knee-length hemlines, and around-the-globe cultural inspirations are seen in abundance.. A storied, travelwear, just-got-off-the-train quality echos through many of the collections. Patterns vary from new and graphic to folksy and florals that (your Grandma) would get excited about. Ladylike influences seem to be reminiscent of an urban lifestyle in the 1920s and 30s. Not only that, but Fall 2013 seems to be celebrating a practical approach to dressing, which we all can get excited about. Aside from this is wispy hair, red lips, porcelain skin, and simple booties/flats for the feet. All in all, I can’t wait for Fall!

Messy braids and graphic prints were a common denominator in many of the looks at Rodarte. The Rodarte sisters said they drew their inspiration from beach life while growing up in California.

Interesting materials throughout the Reed Krakoff show. Satin, gabardine, velvet, and more. I especially love these blue pants-there is even a stripe down the side!
