Vintage Fashion Show at MIA

Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

Balcony crowd.

Tonight I attended a Vintage fashion show at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts as part of Third Thursday (and MN Fashion Week, of course). It was put on by local vintage and resale stores Buffalo Exchange, Everyday People, Blacklist Vintage, Rewind, B-squad Vintage, and a few others. The outfits were daring, bright, and full of throwback styles from other decades (including 50s-inspired frocks and 90s grunge era denim.)

Here is the video of part of the show:

Fashion tours of the permanent gallery were also provided, highlighting clothing from different cultures around the world and how their culture of origin used/related to the items. In addition to this, there was live music provided by Mayda.

Fashionable crowd, perfect venue, all in all a nice evening!

Holidays, Parties, Shoes- oh my!

I missed you guys! Its has been WAY too long. I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and New Year’s. I know I did. One of my favorite Christmas gifts was Vogue: The Editor’s Eye, which celebrates the wonderful and brilliant fashion editors that have been a part of the magazine’s heart and soul for the past 120 years! I can’t wait to read it.

I even got to celebrate my birthday in between Christmas and New Year’s. I celebrated my birthday on the 26th (the actual day) and going out with friends two days later as well. My family and I saw Les Miserables as part of my bday celebration. It was wonderful and very intense! Musical lovers must see. (I am one so it was a must-see for me). On the 28th, I went to Hell’s Kitchen, followed by SEVEN and the Pour House with some great friends. It was definitely a fun time, and also very cold (I promised my friends next year I’ll celebrate in the summer!) At Hell’s Kitchen the food is very handcrafted (even the ketchup is made in-house!) and the menu well thought out and tasty-without being stuffy. The cocktails are fun too, and nothing is over-priced. Cool atmosphere with live music too! I do recommend to my Twin Cities readers! Following are a couple birthday photos.

My gold-heeled ankle-strap shoes. 🙂 Ignore the unattractive carpeting.

My friend Rachel and I on the rooftop at SEVEN. Fireplaces and Christmas trees and everything…I loved it! Rooftop patio in the dead of the Minnesota winter!

I am now 23, one year older. I can stop now- at anytime! Growing older, that is.  This birthday was rather interesting because I got to make some goals for my 23rd year of life that I’m rather excited to accomplish! A few days later, I moved. That was crazy. Then was New Year’s Eve, which of course was crazy and also fun. Me and a few friends went to a Moroccan-themed party in downtown Minneapolis.

Me and my friends on NYE @ EPIC Minneapolis (i’m second from right)

I will be honest- I work at White House Black Market- and because of my associate discount- I end up getting a lot of clothes from there. BOTH of my outfits in these picture are entirely WHBM. Except for my NYE necklace and shoes. (Anthropologie, NineWest) But you can’t really see them in the photo. It’s what happens when you’ve worked at a clothing store for 2 years!

So-after the last really crazy 2 weeks (not to mention working a lot), I finally feel as though I have time to breathe! And pay attention to my blog again. I will leave you with my favorite shoes of late- ankle strap beauties!

I think it’s safe to say that if you mix three of the hottest shoe trends right now: ankle-straps, color-blocking, and platforms, you have a winning combination!

Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to follow me!

New Orange Jacket

This is what I wore last night to dinner with a friend. We went to O’Gara’s, a pub in St. Paul. It was a bit greasy, but the fries were good. It has a lot of Irish-Minnesota history and character to it, which adds something to the experience.

I love wearing my new orange jacket. I think as a Minnesotan, outerwear available in stores here is usually much too boring for me. Hence my purchase of this side-zip jacket. I like pairing it with my pink Doc Martens rubber-soled wedges (my favorite shoe purchase of 2012 so far).

First photo I tried to take of myself is below, but it wasn’t working out too well so my photographer jumped in (aka my roommate).

Jacket: Kensie (Macy’s). Sweater: MANGO (Mango, London). Jeans: White House Black Market. Shoes: Dr. Martens. (Dr. Martens stores) Bracelet: gift! Lavender nail polish: Revlon.

Thanksgiving update: My first two pumpkin pies of my baking life just popped out of the oven. I am super proud, even though the recipe was just from the side of a pumpkin can and I don’t  even know yet if they turned out!

Thanks for stopping by!
